Singer/Songwriter
Lee Whitaker has held onto his “dream”
for what seems like an eternity. In high school Lee played guitar
for a local record label with Leon Huff (who later became one
half
of “The Sound of Philadelphia”.) Some time later, Lee
began collaborating with songwriter/musician Guy Scott when they
wrote the “Spirit” theme for Cruise International.
For many years their “Spirit” song opened and closed
the show on all the Spirit boats around the country. Lee’s
main objective though, was to see his name on the “top 40” charts
Lee
knocked on record company doors in NYC and Nashville for quite
some time before
Grammy winner and Rock ‘n Roll
Hall of Fame songwriter/producer Allen Toussaint called. Toussaint
recorded two Whitaker/Scott songs and encouraged Lee to start
performing his originals. That’s exactly what Lee did!
For the past few years
Lee has been playing area coffeehouses and also in church with
a contemporary Praise Band.
Collaborator Guy Scott and Lee have just produced his first CD, “Songs from the Hourglass”. Their diverse songs, which
contain influences of country, folk, jazz, and pop, along with
Lee’s versatile voice, make for a great combination. Lee
Whitaker’s “dream” may soon turn into reality
with the release of his CD in ‘05.
